Full Job Description
THE OPPORTUNITY

Serves as a varsity Sports Performance Specialist.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

Applies specific protocols for sport team program design to ensure that respective sports’ programs are consistent across the Department of Athletics and Recreation.

Implements a comprehensive strength and conditioning program for all varsity sports.

Maintains relationship with regional and national athletic associations related to sports performance.

Communicates with and advises head coaches about strength and conditioning, pre and post-game, and pre and post practice activities for student-athletes.

Works directly with Sports Medicine department to provide advice and assistance in the prevention of athletic injuries. Assists in the rehabilitation of injured athletes in conjunction with the Sports Medicine department.

Provides on-site direct instruction and motivation for student-athletes, as well as assessment and feedback to ensure proper execution of training techniques.

Coordinates direct supervision and instruction of weight training and conditioning activities for varsity sports programs as appropriate. Performs continual assessment of physical performance of sport teams. Provides motivation and feedback in order to insure proper execution of training techniques.

Assists in daily oversight and maintenance of the varsity strength and conditioning areas. Assists in identifying and purchasing needed strength and conditioning equipment.

Assumes additional responsibilities as required

WHAT EDUCATION AND SKILLS YOU WILL NEED

Bachelor’s Degree. Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) certification through the National Strength and Conditioning Association or equivalent. Must maintain active CSCS certification throughout employment.

First Aid CPR/AED certified.

At least 1-2 years of related experience.

Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to relate to and motivate student-athletes.

Ability to communicate via telephone.

Strong computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint).

Compliance with and knowledge of all NCAA, NEWMAC, and Babson College rules.

Contributes to a culture of inclusion and belongingness for all staff members, student-athletes, prospective student-athletes and stakeholders of the department.

Commitment to working with a diverse student body, staff, and other constituents.

Ability to envision and propose new methods to perform tasks that support ET&A; take thoughtful risks; and accept new and ongoing initiatives, objectives, and solutions to gain sought-after results.

Ability to anticipate and embrace change; demonstrate willingness to achieve, acquire, and utilize new skills and challenging tasks; and is flexible in changing conditions.

HOW AND WHERE YOU WILL WORK

Regular physical exertion, walking, and exposure to weather are required.

Ability to work days, evenings, and weekends, and to travel.

ADDITIONAL SKILLS YOU MAY HAVE

Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to coordinating programs for both male and female intercollegiate athletes in all areas of strength and conditioning as well as speed, agility, plyometric, flexibility and cardiovascular training.
