Job Description

The Data Rich Measurements group within Analytical Enabling Capabilities (Analytical R&D) is seeking applicants for a Senior Scientist position available at its Rahway, New Jersey research facility.

In this role you will work with a highly collaborative and motivated team of scientists in our company's Analytical Research and Development primarily and in close partnership with colleagues within the process enabling technologies team in solving complex analytical problems to facilitate the discovery, evolution, and manufacturing of enzymes for biocatalysis applications. Applicants must demonstrate a high degree of scientific independence, collaborative and proactive in problem selection. Additional qualities that will enable success in this role are the ability to work with an interdisciplinary team of scientists across functions, be self-motivation with an ownership mindset. Strong communications skills and a desire to conduct research and publish are essential attributes. As a member of our team, you will be joining scientific problem solvers who are dedicated to creating the life-changing medicines of tomorrow.

Education Minimum Requirements:

  • Ph.D. in Chemistry/Biochemistry/Chemical Biology or related field with 0-3 years of relevant experience.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Partner with a team of scientists to enable partner groups and stakeholders with advanced analytical methods.

  • Solve challenging problems by application of one or more analytical techniques, including but not limited to, liquid chromatography, gas chromatography, ion chromatography, size exclusion chromatography, and high-resolution mass spectrometry.

  • Explore and develop high throughput analysis techniques to enable high throughput experimentation for enzyme evolution efforts.

  • Demonstrate effective multitasking, prioritization and problem-solving skills in the planning and execution of experiments.

  • Collaborate in a fast-paced, integrated, multidisciplinary team environment.

  • Demonstrate scientific excellence by inventing new analytical platforms to enable high throughput analysis, present at conferences and publish in external scientific literature.

Required Experience and Skills:

  • Demonstrated ability for taking initiative, creativity and innovation in problem solving.

  • Formal training and or hands on experience in high-throughput analytical and bioanalytical methodologies including various forms of chromatographic techniques (HIC, IEX, SEC) and hyphenated techniques including (LC-MS/MS, LC-CAD/ELSD, SEC-MALS), SDS-PAGE, CE-SDS and other affinity-based platforms.

  • Demonstrated scientific ability through publications in peer reviewed journals and presentations in scientific conferences.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, creativity, and strong interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to deliver complex objectives under challenging timelines in a rapidly changing environment.

  • Ability to work in a team environment with cross-functional interactions.

Preferred Experience and Skills:

  • Advanced mass spectrometry experience including method development and troubleshooting.

  • Advanced understanding of organic chemistry and biochemistry

  • Foundational experience in enzymology and protein engineering.

U.S. Hybrid Work Model

Expected US salary range:

$111,400.00 - $175,300.00
