User Experience (UX) Designers are responsible for creating satisfying and compelling experiences for users of a product, often drawing on results from user research and workflow analysis. They also provide product usability, evaluation, and support to product development teams, including the analysis and investigation of applications/systems, including tactile methods, visual graphics, web, multimedia, voice response, and conversational user interaction.
Costco is looking for an experienced UX Designer with intermediate to expert visual design skills to join its Merchandising team. The UX Designer draws from a broad range of UX generalist skills, including user research, information architecture, interaction design, and prototyping to create compelling user experiences in a fast-paced environment.

ROLE
● Leads overall design strategy that meets business and user needs while considering technical limitations.
● Promotes and supports the principles of user-centered design to stakeholders and executives.
● Prepares and facilitates activities, such as affinity diagramming, journey mapping, and user scenario or storyboarding exercises with stakeholders.
● Creates design concepts from design concepts/wireframes to build interactive prototypes and wireframes, demonstrating ability with prototyping tools.
● Presents designs to business stakeholders for approval and is able to support design decisions with research and assessments.
● Manages stakeholder expectations and effectively negotiates trade-offs with stakeholders and executives.
● Creates detailed documentation in meetings, capturing discussions and feedback from stakeholders and is accountable for managing UX action items identified in meetings.
● Performs quality assurance testing on developed pages and facilitates discussion to address defects/bugs.
● Conducts website research such as assessments or competitive analysis of outside retailers.
● Prepares and facilitates usability testing (e.g. formative vs summative test, moderated vs unmoderated test, in-person vs remote, A/B tests).
● Prepares and facilitates field research using the most appropriate evaluation method (observations, interviews, etc.).
● Prepares and conducts Card Sorting and Tree Tests.
● Creates sitemaps and process flows.
● Performs site and system content inventory audits and provides recommendations for changes needed to content based on design goals.
● Utilizes research tools, such as Morae, Silverback, Optimal Workshop, etc.
● Adheres to best practices and common patterns across devices for interactions, such as form controls, mobile transitions, and desktop interactions (popovers, hover effects, etc.).
● Complies with usage of visualization principles/best practices and converts requirements into designs that are appropriate for users and their context of use.
● Applies understanding and usage of appropriate Accessibility (ADA) patterns across devices (desktop, tablet, mobile).
● Collaborates with solution architects, system analysts, software developers, full stack engineers, quality engineers, business users, and other stakeholders to design exceptional user experiences for multiple products concurrently.
● Solves complex design problems through a user-centered design (UCD) process that accounts for user goals, business requirements, and development needs.
● Uses a variety of iterative design methods to drive thoughtful design decisions, including sketches, process flows, wireframes, and interactive simulations/prototypes.
● Analyzes and evaluates current user interfaces and proposes usability improvements (i.e. expert reviews).
● Conducts competitive analysis research to better understand prevalent interaction designs/solutions.
● Creates interactive simulations/prototypes to help project teams, stakeholders, and users explore and understand proposed business solutions.
● Maintains and enforces UX style guides, UI standards, and interaction design pattern libraries.
● Mentors and aids other designers in the design process by providing guidance and feedback to ensure growth in UX disciplines.
● Solves complex design problems through a user-centered design (UCD) process that accounts for user goals, accessibility, business requirements, and development needs.
REQUIRED
● Minimum 3 years’ experience doing UX design, visual design, interaction design, or similar role.
● Solid understanding of mobile UI patterns/interactions and experience designing for native mobile applications (iOS and iPadOS).
● Strong understanding of responsive iOS and iPad design principles, techniques, and frameworks.
● Strong understanding of accessible design principles and familiarity with WCAG 2.1 guidelines.
● Expert knowledge of design tools including, Sketch and Invision.
● Experience working with other design-related software, such as Photoshop and Illustrator.
● Demonstrated proficiency with selecting appropriate UI patterns and applying UCD methodologies to effectively solve design problems.
● Strong understanding of responsive web design principles, techniques and frameworks.
● Experience with front end development technologies (HTML/CSS).
● Creative and pragmatic problem solver with a strong attention to detail.
● Strong presentation and facilitation skills to clearly communicate design decisions and influence business process owners and stakeholders.
● Iteratively refine designs based on feedback and collaboration with executives, managers, and peers.
● Strong time management skills and the ability to be self-directed when needed.
● Strategic thinker able to act tactically and solve problems quickly.
● Ability to manage multiple projects at one time.
● Aware of current and emerging industry trends and best practices.
● An online portfolio or samples of work demonstrating the ability to create great user-centered design solutions.
Recommended
● Bachelor's degree in Design or a related field or equivalent experience.
● Experience designing cross-channel user experiences for web and mobile.
● Experience designing user interfaces in an enterprise environment.
● Comfortable designing for both B2B and B2C projects.
● Strong experience with form design.
● Ability to work with both Mac and PC platforms.
● Ability to plan and conduct user research activities, such as personas, user stories, competitive analysis expert reviews, user interviews/contextual inquiry, field research, and surveys.
● Experience with planning and executing usability tests and reporting results back to project teams and business stakeholders.
● Collaborative and creative problem solver; ability to communicate effectively while working with a diverse group of stakeholders and executive leadership.
● Proficient in Google Workspace applications, including Sheets, Docs, Slides, and Gmail.

Level 1 - $80,000 - $110,000
Level 2 - $105,000 - $135,000
