JOB SUMMARY: The Senior Accountant position is primarily responsible for providing transactional and managerial support during the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing activities of the organization. This role will collaborate closely with the Accounting Manager to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial deliverables, while adhering to pre-determined deadlines. The position has a strong emphasis on inventory and fixed asset management and accounting. Additionally, this role will serve as a backup to the Accounting Manager, overseeing the day-to-day activities of the department while documenting, formalizing, and updating accounting systems and processes.

Responsibilities:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Role-specific Skills

  • Maintain the general ledger in a complete, accurate and timely manner in accordance with GAAP principles.
  • Enter recurring AR, AP, and GL journal entry templates while ensuring that the batch entries are changed or terminated at appropriate trigger points.
  • Review, edit if necessary, and post A/P batches while ensuring proper G/L coding.
  • Review, edit if necessary, and post Amex allocation batches while ensuring proper coding.
  • Complete monthly unearned revenue recognition journal entries using provided general ledger allocation.
  • Update and reconcile the monthly supporting balance sheet schedules to the general ledger.
  • Perform assigned month-end account closing activities, reconciliations, and financial analysis.
  • Manage daily and monthly banking activities involving account debits, credits, and reconciliation.
  • Prepare and post payroll journal entries twice a month; monthly payroll analysis
  • Assist with set-up of Secretary of State accounts for employees in new work states; account info provided to payroll department.
  • Maintain responsibility for Sales and Use tax filings for the District of Columbia Metro area (DC,MD, VA).
  • Record and maintain fixed asset additions and disposals.
  • Work alongside logistics professional to manage and track HaaS equipment (Hardware as aService) and the organization's internal employee equipment in inventory management software (SnipeIt).
  • Compile and provide required information to designDATA's CPA firm for the annual property tax filing.
  • Assist department staff with annual 1099/1096 processing.
  • Provide requested financial information to the parent company at fiscal year-end for annual tax filing.
  • In the event of an internal or external audit, provide auditors with requested information.
  • Manage the documentation of systems and processes within the Accounting department by issuing, formalizing, and updating to further enable improvement.
  • Interface with various staff and departments to problem solve and answer queries.
  • Work on ad hoc projects and other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting
  • 10+ years of experience with monthly financial statement close activities.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.
  • Outstanding ability to work both independently and within a team environment.
  • Works well under stress, pressure, and deadlines.
  • Well-organized, self-directed team player.
Qualifications:

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid Driver's license, ready access to a registered vehicle and must be able to provide proof of state required insurance on registered vehicle.
  • Knowledge of MS Outlook, MS Word, MS Excel, MS Dynamics GP, MS PowerPoint.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT: The majority of work is performed in a professional office setting with a wide variety of people with differing functions, personalities, and abilities. Some travel will be required a few times a year to various hotels throughout USA and Canada.
