About the Role:
We are seeking a Power BI Developer with strong administration expertise to lead the redesign, optimization, and governance of an enterprise-wide Power BI environment. This role is crucial in preparing the organization for a migration from Power BI to Microsoft Fabric by establishing data governance standards, streamlining workspaces, and developing scalable, enterprise-grade reports and dashboards.
The organization currently has 146,000+ personal Power BI workspaces with no clear governance, leading to inconsistent reporting, security risks, and inefficiencies. The ideal candidate will take ownership of cleaning up the Power BI environment, implementing governance policies, and ensuring a smooth transition to Microsoft Fabric while mentoring internal teams on best practices.
This is an opportunity to work in a rapidly modernizing data environment with Azure cloud, Databricks, and AI/ML integration on the roadmap.
Key Responsibilities:
Power BI Development & Administration:
• Redesign and optimize the existing Power BI workspaces with enterprise standards in mind.
• Identify and clean up unnecessary or redundant workspaces before migration.
• Implement data governance policies, ensuring structured deployment, security, and access management.
• Develop scalable and standardized Power BI reports, dashboards, and datasets to improve data-driven decision-making.
• Work with the enterprise data team to integrate Power BI with Azure data services.
• Administer Power BI security settings, user access controls, and workspace permissions to align with enterprise IT policies.
• Monitor Power BI performance and optimize data models for efficiency and speed.
• Document standards, processes, and best practices for Power BI usage and governance.
Migration to Microsoft Fabric:
• Lead the migration from Power BI to Microsoft Fabric, ensuring minimal disruption.
• Work with IT teams to define the roadmap and best practices for a structured migration.
• Ensure proper data integrity and governance compliance during the transition.
• Provide training and knowledge transfer to the internal data team for long-term maintenance.
Collaboration & Mentorship:
•Work closely with business stakeholders and data teams to understand reporting needs and deliver actionable insights.
•Educate and mentor internal data teams on Power BI governance, administration, and best practices.
•Support cross-functional teams in adopting Azure-based data solutions and integrating Power BI with cloud infrastructure.
Must-Have Skills & Experience:
• Power BI expertise – strong experience in developing enterprise-level Power BI reports, dashboards, and data models.
• Power BI administration – experience managing permissions, workspace organization, and governance policies.
• DAX, Power Query, and Power BI Service – advanced hands-on experience.
• Microsoft Fabric migration – knowledge of or experience with transitioning from Power BI to Microsoft Fabric.
• Azure Data Services – familiarity with Azure SQL, Data Factory, Synapse, or other Azure data platforms.
• Data governance & security – strong understanding of workspace governance, role-based access controls (RBAC), and enterprise data policies.
• SQL proficiency – ability to query, transform, and optimize data from structured sources.
Nice-to-Have Skills:
• Databricks – experience working with big data environments and advanced analytics.
• AI/ML knowledge – understanding how AI/ML models can be integrated into data visualization strategies.
• Cloud architecture – experience working with Azure-based cloud environments.
• DevOps & CI/CD pipelines – experience with automated data deployments and version control for reports.
