Full Job Description

Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP, one of the world’s leading global law firms with offices in strategic hubs of commerce, law, and government across North America, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East, is seeking to hire a highly motivated Pitches & Proposals Director.

The Pitches & Proposals Director is a strategic leader responsible for driving new business growth through the development and execution of compelling and winning proposals. In this hands-on role, the Director will lead the development of strategic high-value, high-priority pitches across the firm, working closely with lawyers and professional staff at all levels. You’ll oversee the entire lifecycle of the proposals process—from opportunity assessment to the development of tailored, high-quality proposals and RFP responses, all the way through submission and follow-up.

Morgan Lewis recognizes the benefits of supporting flexible working arrangements. This position can reside in any one of our Boston, Century City, Chicago, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, New York, San Francisco, or Washington DC offices and work a hybrid schedule.

Key functions and responsibilities include:

  • Develop a deep understanding of the firm’s strategic goals and priorities to inform a strategic approach to pitch and proposal submissions.

  • Create a best-in-class process for accessing and responding to proposals, pitch opportunities, and RFPs, including tools and templates to ensure consistency and efficiency across the lifecycle.

  • Provide strategic direction to colleagues for RFP responses, pitches, and proposals, ranging from single-practice matter RFPs to global cross-practice panel RFPs.

  • Curate and manage a comprehensive pitch content library, ensuring materials are high-quality, strategic, and reflective of best practices in the industry. Develop and implement best practices for managing firmwide knowledge and practice-specific content.

  • Lead the creative direction in developing functional, modular pitch and proposal templates tailored to each opportunity, while optimizing efficiencies in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

  • Track, analyze, and report on pitch and proposal outcomes, providing insights to improve future efforts.

  • Develop key performance indicators to measure the success and impact of the pitch and proposal process.

  • Act as the main point of contact for cross-practice and firmwide pitches and proposals.

  • Stay current on industry trends, competitive landscapes, and best practices in proposal development to ensure pitches and proposals are innovative, compelling, and aligned to client needs and market demands.

  • Lead and develop department staff by providing training, opportunities, and support; provide timely feedback on work; regularly coach, evaluate, and recognize staff performance and accomplishments.

  • Build strong relationships across the firm to ensure alignment and buy-in on proposal strategies and deliverables.

Looking for someone who has:

  • Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills with a keen eye for detail.

  • Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence and build credibility with senior stakeholders.

  • Experience managing and mentoring teams.

  • Proficiency in proposal management tools, CRM systems, and Microsoft Office Suite.

Looking for someone who is:

  • Highly organized and deadline-driven, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Creative and innovative, with a focus on continuous improvement.

  • Strongly client-service oriented and collaborative.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 10 years of relevant, progressively responsible business development experience including strategic planning and execution expertise at a senior level, preferably in a law firm or other professional services firm with 5 years in a supervisory or leadership role.

  • Experience excelling in a highly matrixed work environment with ability to work across time zones with global teams and multiple business units and functional teams.

  • Experience working closely with creative and graphic design teams to develop visually engaging pitch and proposal templates is a plus.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships with a wide range of individuals.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and effective presentation skills.

  • Results oriented with time management and organizational skills to prioritize work and handle multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadlines.

  • Commitment to exceptional client service and dedication to high-quality work.

  • Ability to take initiative, anticipate needs, and exercise independent, sound judgment to influence decision-making and effectively interface with executive management.

  • Orientation to detail while understanding and driving toward the macro picture.

  • Very strong knowledge of Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Teams.

  • Self-starter and entrepreneurial spirit, yet highly collaborative in working with colleagues across departments, offices, and skill levels.
