Summary:
Efficiently and courteously obtains information to register patients in the clinical management system to assure accurate and complete demographic and payer information. Performs associated clerical duties including obtaining signatures for patient consent, verifying insurance information, generation of point of service bills, etc. Will complete other duties/task as assigned.
Responsibilities:
Patients and their families are served compassionately when gathering necessary demographic information in completion of the registration process. Also assists patients/families by directing, escorting them or providing maps to other areas of the hospital as necessary to assure we provide “very good” customer service to our patient population. This will be done by managing the gaps in expectations and acknowledging inconveniences. Physicians depend upon copies of ER, admission and outpatient reports for patient follow-ups. Clinical and Diagnostic Services depend upon a speedy and proficient registration to expedite patient care and maintain schedule to assure customer satisfaction. Assists security with visitor control in each registration area. The Patient Accounting Department depends upon accurate registration information to expedite the billing process. Health Information Services relies on registration.

Qualifications
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- HS diploma required. AS in Medical Office Technology, Health Information Technology, or related degree preferred. Completion of Medical terminology course preferred.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Previous experience in customer service/reception preferred. Medical office experience preferred.
LICENSURE/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION
- None Required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS
- Must possess excellent customer relation skills and is a team player. Basic computer skills. Typing speed of 45 wpm Ability to prioritize work during peak volumes Ability to use calculator and perform simple math.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Limited exposure to blood borne and air borne pathogens requiring minimal use of protective equipment. Limited radiation exposure due to use of VDT when registering patients. Stressful work due to fast paced environment (ER) and rotation of shifts.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Basically sedentary with some walking to other areas of the hospital. Ability to lift 30 pounds and reach heights of at least 5 feet.
