Part-Time Career Advising AssistantDepartment Summary
The Career Services & Internships Office advances the mission of Bridgewater State University by engaging with students and alumni to design career and life plans. We empower students to build confidence and professional skills through career advising, resources, programs, and experiential learning opportunities. We facilitate career readiness and connect students with employment opportunities, through partnerships with employers, faculty, staff, and alumni, to achieve a lifetime of career success.Position Summary
The Part-Time Career Advising Assistant will provide job and internship search strategies and relevant information to current students and recent graduates on the tools they need to create and implement a multi-faceted career or internship search. The Part-Time Career Advising Assistant will also deliver workshops, support departmental career events, conduct outreach to students, and represent the Career Services & Internships Office at university-wide events. This is a non-benefited, non-union, in-person position with approximately 15-20 hours per week between now and June 2025. Time extension beyond June 2025 for this appointment may be available based on funding.Position Type
TemporaryEssential Duties
* Provide holistic and comprehensive career services, including career and life design advising for undergraduates and graduate students.* Participate in the Office's drop-in hours and offer one-on-one and group advising for students to explore careers and prepare for internships, research, graduate school, and opportunities after graduation.* Conduct outreach to students and deliver career development workshops and webinars.* Assist students in evaluating and preparing career development plans for use at BSU and beyond.* Prepare students and alumni for job interviews through coaching and mock interviewing, if appropriate.* Promote career events and opportunities through weekly newsletters using the Handshake portal.* Assist the office with large and small-scale events such as career fairs, networking nights, orientation sessions, and other career initiatives.* Encourage the use of career management systems (Handshake) among all undergraduate students, recent graduates, and alumni. Monitor engagement and industry trends related to full-time and experienced hired positions.* Perform duties assigned by the senior management team in the office and support the ongoing data collection, assessment, and divisional initiatives.Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required.- Demonstrated knowledge of current labor trends and local, regional, and national job-searching strategies.- Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated skill in presenting / teaching.
