DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Fiscal Analyst reports directly to the Fire Department Fiscal Manager and is responsible for assisting in the management of all aspects of the Fire budget and related fiscal operations. Duties and responsibilities include the following:
- Assist in the day-to-day operations in the areas of budget and accounting, payroll, purchasing and accounts payable including: the preparation of weekly Fire payroll processing based on employee contracts, departmental requisitions for goods and services, processing vendor payments and respond to vendor payment inquiries and reporting of fire revenues.
- Maintain Worker’s Compensation Data Base.
- Assist in fire detail, cash and revenue management including billing, collections and other third-party payments.
- Assist in the preparation of the state and federal grant reports.
- Assist in the preparation of financial reports, documents, schedules, appropriations and transfer requests.
- Provide support in the development and improvement of internal business procedures and policies.
- Help resolve any accounting, financial or system inquiries.
- Assist with daily office communications with the public and city departments.
- Maintain Personnel Files.
- Assist Chief of Department, Assistant Chief of Operation, and Assistant Chief of Administration as directed.
- Perform other duties as required.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business or related discipline or equivalent related experience.
- Demonstrated successful experience in accounting, budget, grant or financial management, preferably in a municipal or school organization.
- Familiarity with worker’s compensation payment processing.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Extensive working experience with computerized financial and/or budget systems.
- Working knowledge of PeopleSoft financial system is a plus.
- Strong working knowledge of electronic spreadsheet and word processing applications.
- Knowledge of database and graphic software a plus.
- Effective communication skills, including strong writing skills.
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work in a confidential environment as a reliable team member.
- Professional work ethic in order to fulfill necessary deadlines.
- Familiarity with worker’s compensation, Massachusetts Section 111F a plus.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Ability to access, input, and retrieve information from a computer. Answer telephones and maintain multiple files. May require minimal lifting of up to 10 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Standard office environment. Fluorescent lighting, carpeted floors and air conditioning. Requires attendance at meetings. Position may be eligible for hybrid work under the City’s Telework Policy, depending on operational needs.
