Northrop Grumman's Defense Systems sector is currently seeking a Engineering Technician 3 to support on-site at our Rocket Center, West Virginia location.
Provides technical support to engineers on a variety of technical tasks. Gathers, maintains, formats, compiles, and manipulates technical data, such as laboratory or material test results and engineering design changes. Produces engineering documentation, reports, drawings (flow charts, block diagrams, and schematics). Performs detailed mathematical calculations using established formulas; preliminary analyses of data where guidelines are provided in such areas as trajectory adequacy, model dimensional consistency; and quantitative judgments concerning technical data. Uses personal computer in performance of analyses and development of documentation/reports. May conduct tests and record data to assist with engineering evaluation or analysis.
Principal Accountabilities / Responsibilities:
• Conduct daily operations of analytical instruments to ensure accurate data collection and analysis for research purposes
• Perform weekly audits of hazardous waste inventory to ensure compliance with safety regulations and accuracy within the designated research area
• Demonstrate proficiency in the handling and casting of slurry propellant samples into various configurations and assemblies for experimental purposes
• Possess extensive experience in the preparation of both inert and energetic materials for sub-scale testing and production mixing operations
• Utilize knowledge of rheometer sampling techniques and data reduction methods to analyze material properties effectively
• Prepare catalysts for production programs and input relevant data into the Solumina system for tracking and analysis
• Exhibit expertise in the preparation of inert and energetic materials specifically for sub-scale and production mixing operations
• Operate computer control systems, including Solumina and Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS), to streamline data management and operational efficiency
• Maintain accurate records of explosive inventory and ensure compliance with established limits across all facility buildings
• Apply knowledge of mixing operations using Baker Perkins and JH Day sub-scale mixers to conduct quality control, material assessments, and engineering evaluations
Minimum Qualifications:
• This position emphasizes skills and experience. Will consider high school diploma or equivalent (GED) with at least 4 years of laboratory/manufacturing relevant experience.
• Ability to routinely lift 50 pounds
• Experience working in an analytical lab
• Demonstrated hands-on mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting
• Ability to work independently and with minimum supervision
• Proficient in MS office
• Experience handling energetics, hazardous chemicals, and solvents
Preferred Experience:
• Preferred 2-year Technology Degree OR 5 years of experience in a laboratory/manufacturing setting
• MS Office tools including Excel, Word
• Ability and willingness to work off shifts
• Provide coverage on weekends and off shifts as needed
• Extensive experience handling energetics, hazardous chemicals, and solvents
Salary Range: $55,800 - $93,000
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
