About the Department:
The Customer Connection Equipment group is responsible for developing and implementing the strategy to maintain the integrity of our customer equipment assets. This includes maintaining the integrity of our gas meters, communication modules, service regulators, and other connected safety devices like methane detectors and smart meters. Job Purpose
To provide the technical expertise and support from an engineering perspective to ensure safe and effective operation, maintenance, and enhancement of National Grid's gas distribution network in accordance with the corporate strategic plan.
Key Accountabilities
Position Responsibilities (including but not limited to):
- Perform basic or standard integrity assessments of connection equipment assets and analyze system data to track and assess asset health and performance.
- Conduct risk analysis to identify the most significant threats and identify additional measures to address those threats. Perform periodic evaluation and identify improvements to enhance the effectiveness of the programs.
- Assist in the evaluation of emerging technologies; participation in network communication specifications; support the development of a long-term business strategy for the design, selection, and control of an end-to-end communication solution for connected gas safety devices and endpoints.
- Perform basic or standard engineering analysis and calculations with small scale complex projects and/or participate in large scale complex projects
- Support strategic program development and provide technical knowledge as required in support of company operations.
- Execute instructions and requests, plan and organize resources and make appropriate arrangements to ensure that work is carried out efficiently and in line with relevant policies and processes.
- Conduct specific tasks within area of capability and perform engineering investigations in order to recommend corrective action in problem areas, or to prevent problems
- Develop and progress the implementation of methods for the day-to-day business to take advantage of the operational benefits of new communications systems and technologies.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science Degree in an Engineering discipline required
- Strong computer science background preferred
- FE preferred
- Professional experience will determine appropriate engineering position
- Knowledge of relevant utility industry practices, standards and legislation preferred
- Knowledge of computer applications and languages is preferred, i.e. Microsoft Power BI, SQL, Python, R,
- Possesses positive expectations for team members and expresses regard for them

- Valid driver's license required

Salary
$105,000 - $124,000 a year
Please be advised that due to the nature of this position, incumbents are subject to federal Drug & Alcohol safety regulations governing US Department of Transportation ("DOT") covered positions, including the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and Pipeline Hazardous Material Safety Administration (PHMSA). As such, the Company's testing programs and policies regarding the use of federally prohibited drugs or alcohol, for recreational or medical purposes, will remain in effect for these safety-sensitive, DOT covered positions.
