The Screening & Compound Profiling group at our Research Laboratories site in Rahway, NJ, is seeking a highly motivated Automation Scientist to join our Automation & Informatics team in the Screening and Compound Profiling group. The successful candidate will be responsible for operating automated systems to execute various biochemical and cell-based assays accurately and efficiently, ensuring the integrity and traceability of the data generated. They will also participate in designing, implementing, and optimizing automated systems and processes to enhance capabilities for target and lead discovery across diverse therapeutic areas, including oncology, immunology, neuroscience, cardiometabolic, and infectious disease. The individual will work with data visualization tools to effectively present and analyze experimental results, enabling clear insights and decision-making from complex datasets. Finally, they will have experience coding in Python, SQL, C#, JavaScript, R or similar languages.

Education:

  • Degree in Biomedical engineering, Computer Sciences, Pharmacological Sciences, Biochemistry, or equivalent plus >3 (PhD) or >10 (MSc, BS) years of experience in HTS, Automation and Informatics in an industry/biotech setting.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Experience writing, optimizing, and executing protocols on integrated robotic platforms using scheduling software such as Cellario, Tempo, Momentum, Green Button Go or similar.

  • Demonstrated skills in querying databases such as Oracle or Postgres via SQL or vendor provided APIs in order to answer complex questions.

  • Experience writing code in Python, C#, JavaScript, R or similar languages to extend functionality of existing software systems, federate data from different systems or to aid in communication between systems.

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively identify and diagnose problems in robotic systems, screening processes, and laboratory equipment. Candidates should possess strong analytical skills to assess issues and determine root causes.

  • Able to collaborate and thrive in a matrix team environment integrating automation, informatics, in vitro pharmacology and biology.

  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills with a proven track-record of maintaining strong relationships with stakeholders.

Preferred Skills:

  • Expertise with laboratory instrumentation such as low-volume bulk dispensers, acoustic sample transfer devices and detectors in a laboratory setting in both standalone and integrated modes.

  • Experience programming workflows on liquid handlers such as Hamilton STAR, Tecan Fluent, Beckman i-Series or similar.

  • Proficiency in statistical concepts and techniques relevant to the analysis of screening data.

  • Experience in applying AI and ML methodologies, including supervised and unsupervised learning and data classification techniques in laboratory environments.

U.S. Hybrid Work Model

Expected US salary range:

$139,600.00 - $219,700.00
