Full Job Description
The Academic Success Specialist is a key member of the Academic Enrichment team dedicated to improving student success. This role involves delivering effective and impactful co-curricular offerings such as coaching and webinars that promote academic success. Skill areas include, but are not limited to writing, communication, critical thinking, mathematics, statistics, and research skills. The academic success specialist will also coordinate a team of graduate assistants who serve as peer coaches, providing guidance and support to ensure delivery of high-quality academic assistance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide academic support services, including coaching and webinars, in one or more of the following areas: writing, communication, critical thinking, mathematics, statistics, or research methods and skills.
  • Independently design, develop, and implement academic content that will be used in webinars and coaching to support academic success.
  • Design and develop additional resources and implement evidence-based, data-driven strategies to enhance student success.
  • Oversee Graduate Assistant students who serve as coaches, providing training, guidance, and feedback.
  • Partner with academic leadership (including deans, associate/assistant deans, and program/faculty directors), faculty, and staff to identify student needs and develop appropriate academic enrichment programming.
  • Collect and analyze data to assess the effectiveness of academic enrichment programs; use data-driven decision-making to promote continuous quality improvement in academic enrichment and overall student success.
  • Promote a positive and supportive learning environment within academic enrichment and across the university.


Job Skills:

  • Strong academic background in writing and one or more of the following areas: mathematics, statistics, or research methods.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of andragogy and evidence-based instructional intervention for adult students.
  • Proficiency in relevant software, including educational technology tools and artificial intelligence to enhance and scale academic enrichment programming.


Work Experience:

  • 3-5 years of experience teaching writing, mathematics, statistics, or research methods to adult learners, preferably in an online setting.
  • Experience designing, developing, and delivering academic content in writing, mathematics, statistics, or research methods for coaching or training in an online setting.
  • Experience with academic enrichment, supplemental instructional, or student intervention, preferably with a diverse adult student population in an online setting.


Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, mathematics, statistics, secondary education (with a minor or endorsement in one of the academic skill areas), or a closely related discipline required.
  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • All degrees must be conferred from an institution accredited by an accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.


Other:

  • If offsite or hybrid role, must have access to work in a setting which enables meeting all requirements of the role (including privacy, reliable internet access, computer, phone, ability to video conference, etc.) at a remote location.
  • Must be able to meet critical thinking and problem solving aspects aligned to job duties, as well as effectively communicating with co-workers.
  • Must be able to work more than 40 hours per week when business needs warrant. Accommodations related to schedule may be considered.
  • Ability to work onsite in Corporate or Campus location (in a typical office environment) may be required based on role. If so, this would include being mobile within the office, including movement from floor-to-floor using elevators or stairs.
  • Must be able to travel occasionally should a business need arise. For most roles travel would not be common. Travel may involve plane, car or metro. In accordance with ADA policies, reasonable accommodations regarding travel limitations can be provided. Travel will be more common for roles such as Account Executives (25 - 50%), senior leaders (10 – 20%) or Capella Core Faculty (5 – 10%).
  • This role may require lifting, however reasonable accommodations will be provided in accordance with our ADA policies.
  • Other essential functions and marginal job functions are subject to modification.

$54,500.00 - $81,900.00 - Salary
