Job Summary

Reporting to the Assistant Director of Academic Success and Student Support, you will be responsible for supporting School of Information students by providing direct support in areas of tutoring, academic accommodations navigation, academic skill development, and overall support to the Academic Success Team at UMSI. You will collaborate with the Assistant Director of Academic Success and Student Support to help implement and support academic success programs, workshops, and resource development. You will help coordinate the continual development of the UMSI Peer Tutoring program and work to identify and implement additional academic support interventions for students. You will also work closely with the Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD) team to support students, staff, and faculty in navigating the academic accommodations process and support for students with disabilities. You will grow in a collaborative work environment and have a desire to work with an accomplished and diverse student, faculty, and staff population.

The Academic Programs and Student Life (APSL) team at UMSI focuses on student success across academic programs. Our four main areas are academic program management, advising, student support, and student life. We help with personal concerns and campus navigation through direct support and referrals. We prioritize student success and continuously develop initiatives to enhance the UMSI student experience.

Responsibilities*

  • Coordinate functions of the UMSI Peer Tutoring program in close cooperation with academic advising, academic success, and faculty partners.
  • Help implement new strategies to enhance existing tutoring programs and benchmark other opportunities to improve student support in these areas.. 
  • Develop and implement proactive student support programming focused on academic skill building and development.
  • Proactively manage outreach for students who register with SSD at the start of each semester to determine questions, and concerns, and coach them through the semester request process.
  • Provide administrative oversight of 10-15 student temp positions, including peer tutors and graduate student interns. 

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, certification, and experience with a minimum of 2-3 years of increasing responsibility in student services, academic support, tutoring services, K-12 education, and/or university learning centers. 
  • Experience in coordinating peer tutoring, peer coaching, and/or supplemental instruction programs in a university setting.
  • Demonstrated experience with process improvement and developing new initiatives. 
  • Experience in using project management tools and/or cloud-based tools for collaboration (i.e. Slack, Google Suite, EAB Navigate360).

Work Schedule

Punctual and regular attendance is required. May require working during non-business hours and on weekends.

Work Locations

This is a hybrid position. You may be required to travel to multiple locations on and off campus. The main office workspace for this position is located in the UMSI Collegian Building.

Modes of Work

Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes.
